Distant Suns 3: Unleash Your Inner Astronaut

“Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star…How I wonder what you are…”

Gazing at the stars is one of my favorite things to do with my sons during our summer camping trips. We try to locate the planets, the constellations and if we are very lucky, we catch a glimpse of shooting stars.

As the song suggests, I do wonder what I am looking at. Could it be the big dipper or the Pisces constellation? I remember trying to show my sons the planet Venus when an odd thing happened. The planet started to move and it had blinking lights. Needless to say, I am not well versed in astronomy BUT …there is an app for that.

The universe is now in the palm of our iPads/iPhones with the new updated astronomy app from Distant Suns 3: Unleash Your Inner Astronaut. The night sky comes alive in this app as it provides beautiful graphics of the planets, the constellations and the entire universe. Distant Suns 3 is for anyone who wonders what our night sky holds. The app creator, Mike Smithwick, adds, “Award-winning Distant Suns has the reputation of both having one of the most realistic displays of the night sky, while being one of the easiest to use astronomy apps for casual sky watchers as well as serious astronomers.”

Distant Suns 3 has received 5 stars from the itunesappreview.com and the features are so cool…

•No Internet required. Just a sense of wonder
•View from the Earth or out in the solar system
•Augmented reality viewing overlays the sky with your local landscape

•Special color mode preserves your night vision.
•Touch the sky to reveal hidden data for each object

My favorite feature on this app is the astronomy related quotes that fade in and out in the bottom left hand corner. It is a writer’s paradise of information, quotes and visual delights!

This app is expensive at $9.99 but it is worth EVERY penny. I cannot put this app down. My family and I love this astronomy app and I know you will too. Download this app and enjoy the wonders of the universe.
