Our family is in the thick of “Reading Counts” which means we are committed to our elementary school to read 100 minutes per week. So, how do you get a first grade boy away from his beloved “screens” to enjoy reading just as much as the computer, TV and Wii, if not more? Captain Underpants! In fact, the new book Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers, the tenth of the series, was just released and my son was so excited! As soon as it arrived, my son read it out loud to the family and the laughs are plenty. In fact, he can’t wait to keep on reading more and suddenly accomplishing 100 minutes of reading a week is a treat.

My son is 6 and in first grade and thinks Captain Underpants is hilarious! He has only read the original The Adventures of Captain Underpants. Right now he’s all about The Magic Treehouse series, but the CU series will likely be next on his list
